“Wonderful and Surprising” - Shen Yun in Hiroshima
Shen Yun Performing Arts is currently touring Japan, with one show in Hiroshima City this weekend.
Our reporters spoke to a city councilor after the show.
[Tstsuo Doi, Hiroshima City Councilor]:
"You know when the leg lifted straight into the air? The performance was wonderful and surprising like that. It was the first time I've seen such a performance."
He enjoyed the performers’ mission, to restore and preserve traditional Chinese culture.
[Tstsuo Doi, Hiroshima City Councilor]:
"There's 5000 years of Chinese culture here. I like the singing. I hope it continues to be passed along in the future."
Lawyer Kuniaki Watanabe also agreed with the show's mission.
[Kuniaki Watanabe, Lawyer]:
"I think it's important to cherish Chinese traditions and culture."
Shen Yun currently is unable to perform in Mainland China, due to the current communist regime's supression of traditional Chinese culture.
[Kuniaki Watanabe, Lawyer]:
"Economically speaking China has opened up, but politically and culturally China isn't very open. I hope it opens up."
[Tstsuo Doi, Hiroshima City Councilor]:
"Human rights should not be suppressed. There's a scene where he opens a banner like this. This sort of thing seems like a frequent occurrence. Suppressing human rights is not right.”
Mr. Watanabe says the show offers audiences a chance to contemplate the world that we live in today.
[Kuniaki Watanabe, Lawyer]:
"Only through reflecting on the past, thinking about today, can we understand the future."
