“The Singing Was Out of This World” - Female Rapper on Shen Yun in Pittsburgh
Shen Yun Performing Arts journeyed to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for two shows this week. It was the first time the company has performed in the city.
[Rart Waters, Real Estate]:
“This is absolutely fantastic. I feel like I’m looking back in 5000 years of Chinese history.”
One couple brought their three adopted Chinese daughters to see the show.
[Ceil Sturdevant, Artist, Ceramics Teacher]:
“The visuals were wonderful and it really made you feel like you were there.”
[Allen Sturdevant, Physicist]:
“It was very romantic, very idealistic and picturesque and it harked back to the old times.”
[Rob Palguta, Physician]:
“I love the show because it really stresses truth and beauty, and the spirit and it’s actually transcultural, so the spirit which is so being crushed here in the west from the humanism and secularism, it just shows this transcultural experience of depth, truth and beauty, through virtue.”
Kellee Maize, a Pittsburgh-based rapper, was also in the audience.
[Kellee Maize, Rapper]:
“The singing was just out of this world. I couldn’t even believe it was a person making, sometimes, I was just really shocked.”
Ms. Maize enjoyed the lyrics sung by the Shen Yun vocalists, about the true meaning of life.
[Kellee Maize, Rapper]:
“I was trying to write it down really quickly, because it was just so beautiful and so true you know. But it was in the program, so that was nice, so I could take it home with me.”
