FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, November 24, 2009
Starting at noon on November 21, 2009, Time Warner Cable viewers in the New York City area are able to receive New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) programming around the clock on Channel 589. NTDTV is available to all digital cable subscribers for no additional charge in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island and Mt Vernon NY, as well as western-most Brooklyn and southeast Bergen County NJ. In all, approximately 1.16M digital subscriber households can now watch NTDTV programs 24/7.
As part of Time Warner Cable’s multi-cultural offering, NTDTV is adjacent to other Chinese channels. However, NTDTV holds the distinction for being the only full time Chinese channel that does not require an additional monthly subscription, provided a subscriber household already has digital cable.
Chinese residents in the New York City area responded enthusiastically to the news. After the public announcement was made late Friday, NTDTV customer service hotline received a record number of calls. Ms. He, a long-time NTDTV viewer living in Manhattan, called the NTDTV hotline immediately after seeing the announcement. She expressed her excitement at the 24/7 expansion and said that she would tune in to channel 589 on Saturday to wait for NTDTV’s signal launch at noon time.
NTDTV has been a programming partner of Time Warner Cable since 2004, airing on Channel 32 in Southern Manhattan each night for 3 hours during prime time. The move to digital Channel 589 represents a significant expansion of the partnership.
PathFinder World Video LLC brokered NTDTV’s expanded service as its distribution agent. Its general manager Roger McGarrahan said, “NTD is a prime example of the quality programming and value an ethnic channel can provide their target audience. And Time Warner Cable’s New York City system is the ideal partner and market for a launch of NTD’s channel. PathFinder is very proud to have played a role to introduce NTD to a broader audience.”
