New Delhi: Commonwealth Games Boxing Venue Inaugrated
New Delhi is gearing up for the Commonwealth Games-2010, which will be held in October.
The Chief Minister of Delhi inaugurated an upgraded indoor stadium, venue for boxing and a sports facility block.
In the sports facility, a number of environmentally friendly materials and energy efficient devices have been used to make it a green building.
[Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister of Delhi]:
"The stadium is very beautiful and has been constructed and designed, keeping in mind all the required facilities. All the work has been done keeping in mind ecological and environmental concerns."
The stadium has been designed and constructed to meet international standards including an underground parking lot for about 500 vehicles.
The stadium will have a seating capacity of 2,700.
India came under severe criticism after construction of several venues fell behind schedule, forcing the delay or shifting of many international meets planned as test events.
