Chile Earthquake Destroys 1.5 Million Homes

Curico is home to some of the most historic sites in Chile. Now some of that history is covered in dust or standing in ruins. Like many parts of the country, Curico is recovering from a massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake that left more than 700 people dead.

In the port town of Talcahuano, streets are now covered in water, and roads and bridges have collapsed.

The port itself also sustained heavy damage. On the streets, people are trying to salvage what they can.

Chilean President Michelle Bachelet began assessing the destruction with a tour of the city of Constitucion.

The quake damaged at least 1.5 million homes and destroyed an untold amount of the country's infrastructure... a reconstruction challenge for Bachelet's successor Sebastian Pinera, who takes office in two weeks.
