A 59-year-old Brazilian bricklayer shocked his family and friends when he walked into his own funeral on Monday.

Ademir Jorge Goncalves, known by friends as "Typhoon", was reportedly killed in a car crash in Santo Antonio de Platina Sunday night.

When his sister, Vera Lucia Goncalves, went to identify the body, she said it was badly disfigured but the clothes on the corpse were similar to something her brother wore.

[Vera Lucia Goncalves, Ademis Goncalves' sister]:
"He was there (in the morgue) just like they found him on the highway. So he was very similar to my brother. I thought he was my brother. To make mistakes is human."

News of his death quickly spread after being reported on a local radio station. In Brazilian tradition, the funeral was held the next day, which also happened to be the Day of the Dead Holiday when Brazilians flock to the cemeteries to honor the dead.

Goncalves was spotted Monday morning, after spending the night out drinking with friends. He was rushed to his funeral to clear up the confusion.

Goncalves' other sister, Araldina, said it took her a while to believe that her brother was really alive.

[Araldina Goncalves, Ademir Gincalves' sister]:
"(Ademir Goncalves) Arrived (at the funeral), hugged me; I talked to him. (Reporter asks: Then you were sure?) Then I was sure he (the dead man in the coffin) wasn't him", she said.

The "Typhoon" said everyone was surprised by his sudden show.

[Ademir Jorge Goncalves, Brazilian Bricklayer]:
"I arrived at the funeral and they all went crazy, they thought I was a ghost!."

The body was correctly identified later on Monday and has already been buried in another state.
