2009 World Solar Challenge Race Continues
First and second place winners in the 2009 Global Green World Solar Challenge were Japan's Tokai University team and the Nuon Solar Team from the Netherlands.
The Infinium team from the University of Michigan in the U.S. won third place.
There were technical and mechanical challenges along the way, but everyone agreed it was a great event to be involved in.
[Rein Van Eijnd, Nuna V Team Member, Netherlands]:
"It feels great finishing second with all the problems we had. It's been a fantastic race."
It was a grueling five days for the teams racing the 1,800 mile-long stretch across the Australian outback.
The champagne celebration and cooling off in the fountain in Adelaide, were well earned.
The solar race has been held every two years since 1987.
The race is expected to finish on Saturday.
