Avatar Still Smashing Records

Director James Cameron has only himself to beat at the box office. Avatar, the sci-fi fantasy epic is smashing records--opening number one at the box office for four straight weekends.

Avatar has already railed in 1.3 billion dollars worldwide so far, making it the second highest grossing movie ever made.
 
And at that top spot is James Cameron’s other epic, Titanic, which sits at 1.8 billion.

As lead actor Sam Worthington explains it, a former marine gets to drive a remotely controlled body on a far away planet and in the process falls in love with a beautiful 10 foot tall blue alien.

The film was four and a half years in the making, including creating the groundbreaking technology that captures the actors performance and animates it into the avatars.

The movie’s now gathering Oscar buzz, already nominated for best picture and best director. Now we’re wondering what’s next for this director?
