Blue Water and Green Biodiversity for Children in Jerusalem

2010-05-19 01:22

All year long these children have participated in an environmental program initiated by the Israeli Society for the Protection of Nature.

For ten years now, children gather in a green park in Jerusalem to sum up their study of the environment by means of games and fun. This year the theme was two colors: blue for water scarcity and green for biodiversity.

[Pazit Schweid, Society for the Protection of Nature]:
"This is an educational program, called 'Children lead a change.' We believe the children are the ones to bring about the Environmental change the world needs and they will teach their parents."

Children study through this original game that saving the Planet needs a lot of coordination.
" Three-four, right foot - Three-four, left foot."

Children bring home what they study in the program activities.

[Adi Morduch, Program Student]:
"I turn off the shower tap while soaping my body or when brushing my teeth."

And at home, the children decide the water rules.

[Shoam Cohen, Program Student]:
"I suggested to my parents that while waiting for the water to warm up in the shower, to collect the water in a receptacle for other uses such as washing the dishes."

Children from Merhav School in the south of Israel are trying to remember what they have studied.

To help them understand the importance of biodiverstiy, the children study and memorize endangered species by means of games.

[Pazit Schweid, Society for the Protection of Nature]:
"We hope that in five or ten years those children will be good citizens who protect the environment and its biodiversity."

Hopefully, these children will really make a change towards a "Greener" Future.
