2010-02-15 09:23

Under the slogan "Less is More", one of Israel's leading fashion designers, Gideon Oberson, showcased his 2010 summer collection in Tel Aviv on Friday.

Oberson's catwalk was dominated by white linen designs, spreading an atmosphere of summer elegance.

The outfits ranged from day-to-day office-wear to vacation suits, combined with organza elements, weaving and tulle.

[Gideon Oberson, Fashion Designer]:
“The first part is all in white, with the music of Elvis. Only linens, all kinds of workmanship on the white linen... very simple, less is more.”

The latter part of the show consisted of clean-cut cocktail and evening gowns in white, black and red.

In addition to the "Oberson Couture" show, the designer introduced four mini-collections created as part of a rare cooperation with four young Israeli designers.

[Gideon Oberson, Fashion Designer]:
"I picked up four very good students from the fourth year, and we worked together on a mini collection. Each of them prepared a different theme, a different line."

The students all study in the Shenkar school of fashion in Tel Aviv, where Oberson has been teaching for years.

Aiming to revive Israeli couture, the teacher and students labored over their collections for the past nine months.

Oberson has been a massive force in Israeli fashion for decades, known world-wide especially for his bathing suit collections.

According to his website, Oberson draws his inspiration from all types of art, including dance, music and architecture.
