January 26th is Australia Day, and to celebrate their national day, many Aussies have flocked to the aptly named Aussie World on the Sunshine Coast.

Families enjoy true blue events, rides and a variety of traditional foods, including the famous Aussie meat pie.

And the dress code for many is a perfect match with the setting.

[David Thompson, General Manager, Aussie World]:
“Today is about celebrating Australia, it’s Australia Day. It’s just fantastic to us to be able to do it with an iconic pub.”

The Australian flag raising ceremony ends, and the serious action begins with the famous dunny race, an event that draws enthusiastic competitors each year.

[Becker Helicopters team, Competitors]:
“Yeah, we are going to win.”

[Hairjamm team, Competitors]:
“We are. Juuce.”

[Elliott Hohenhaus, Maroochy North Shore Roos Football Club]:
“We have been the reigning champs for two years and we are going to bring it home again this year.”

[David Thompson, General Manager]:
“With the dunnies out the front it makes a huge iconic Australian day.”

Hauling an outdoor toilet up hill, in the heat of the day, proves a worthy challenge for participants, and a great spectacle for onlookers.

Last year’s winners Maroochy North Shore Roos Football Club, are again unbeatable, keeping their title of “Dunny Race Champions of the World.”

Australia Day without the traditional tug-of-war, certainly not, out-heaving the opposition, the Sunshine Coast Daily team take the honors.

Shining examples of the favored Aussie utility vehicle, are proudly displayed in the ute show.

[David Thompson, General Manager]:
“Having a look at some of these utes it’s just fantastic the trouble that people go to and what they do for their pride and their possessions. The ute, the Barbie the prawns is an Australian day.”

[Rob Thompson, Ute Enthusiast]:
“I’ve won about 115 trophies and ribbons with it.”

Children of all ages enjoy a variety of rides, from the slow to the more thrilling.

[Jaiden Crouch and Bailey-Rei Crouch-Cooper]:
“It was very Australian.”

Australia Day at Aussie World saw people’s spirits, and the national flag flying high.
