Last year Dennis Stevenson opened the doors of his home and gave away all of his possessions to people in need.

This year, he's at it again, but instead of using his home, he's opened a new shop on Queensland's Gold Coast.

Many have donated to the "Spirit of Christmas" shop, where people are allowed to come in and simply take what they want.

[Dennis Stevenson, Good Samaritan]:
"It will be particularly good when people that may not be able to afford things can give gifts."

Stevenson estimated that about 90 percent of the items had already been taken by late Tuesday morning.

Visitors to the store said they loved the idea.

"It's brilliant. It captures the spirit of Christmas which is about generosity, the spirit of the community and people getting together. I think Dennis has done an amazing job actually with the idea."

The shop is scheduled to open for a further two days leading up to Christmas.

It's presumed more donations are welcome.
