Unique Boat Festival in India

A grand and colorful boat festival was organized in western India on Monday. It marks Full Moon Day.

Thousands from all parts of the state turned up on the bank of the river Valvanti to enjoy the gala celebrations marked with fireworks.

Specially crafted and illuminated miniature replicas held everyone captive.

This is boat artists' chance to show their creativity.

[Digambar Kamat, Goa State Chief]:
"I think tremendous response we get for this festival. People are coming from different parts of state plus we get even tourists, special trips are being arranged for this festival. The young generation gets involved in making this boat show which is considered as the best boat shows in state. I am sure that this will encourage more and more artists also to show their ability."

The event is also known as Deva Diwali, and has grown into a state level competition for the most artistic and technically superior boat.
