Oracle Octopus Predicts English Loss

2010-06-26 08:43

Here are eight reasons why England won't win the World Cup.

This eight-limbed fortune teller has predicted that England will slump to defeat in their upcoming match against rivals Germany in the last 16.

"Paul" the octopus has become something of a celebrity oracle in Germany, with a hundred percent accuracy at predicting their results in this tournament.

Paul makes his predictions by choosing to open one of two boxes with national flags on the front and food inside – the one he picks first will win.

Although Paul is a resident at the "Sea Life" aquarium in the western German city of Oberhausen, claims of bias will fall on deaf ears as the octopus was born in Weymouth, England.

A Sea Life spokeswoman was confident Paul's prediction will come true.

[Tanja Munzig,"Sea Life" Spokeswoman]:
"The special thing today was that Paul decided very quickly and also that Paul, a native of England, hopped into the German box and even closed it from inside. All this speaks for a quick victory."

But there is still hope for England.

At Euro 2008 Paul predicted four out of five matches correctly for Germany. England fans will be hoping that this is the one that he gets wrong this time around.
