2010-06-11 01:33

Earlier this week, media workers attended a special event in Kyiv where they were honored for their accomplishments. It marked the “Day of Journalists” on June 6.

The head of the organizing committee says that the winners were selected by the public, and they voted for them through the internet or telephone.

[Larisa Medina, Head of the Organizing Committee of the “Golden Feather" Award]:
“We don’t have any jury. This competition is for viewers and readers, people who watch TV, listen to the radio and read newspapers.”

The winners included journalists, editors, radio-hosts and others involved in media.

[Natalia Nagornaya, Journalist]:
“I received many calls today congratulating me on this day, journalist day. And I was wondering why are they congratulating me? I don't get enough sleep, I always travel and I'm always busy with my work.”

[Ludmila Momot, the Head of the Press-Office of the Supreme Court of Ukraine]:
“This is a cool day. Generally speaking, professional day is the third coolest day after birth, good marriage and the third is – professional day. This is what our lives consist of."

People who are usually the target for the journalists’ reports and articles are also here.

[Andrey Kozhemiakin, National Deputy of Ukraine]:
“Not only my work is connected with the journalists, but also I have two journalists in my family - my wife and my daughter. And I want to congratulate everyone on this day, including you and wish good luck and all the best.”

[Vlada Prokayeva, Advisor of the Minister]:
“I meet journalists during many press-conferences, at charity events and while reading articles. And I have many friends – nice people – who work as journalists.”

The “Day of Journalists” was established in Ukraine because on that day the country was accepted into the International Federation of Journalists 18 years ago.
