Movie Theatre uses Pedal Power

In Lithuania's capital Vilnius, going to the movies can be hard work.

At the "Pasaka" or "Fairytale" art house cinema, the projector is powered by stationary bicycles.

Volunteers willing to shed some sweat get to watch the film for free.

[Simonas Gutautas, Volunteer Bicycle Peddler]:
"Peddling while watching a movie is such an interesting feeling because you are exercising and watching something at the same time."

[Monika Kundelyte, Volunteer Bicycle Peddler]:
"The idea of cycling and watching a movie at the same time is super cool -- this is entertainment and sports. I am very, very pleased."

It takes around 30 minutes to modify the bikes and hook them up to the generator which powers the projector.

There is even a committee for bikes in cinemas.

[Jonas Dovydenas, Member, Organizing Committee for Bikes in Cinemas]:
"We are bike enthusiasts and we love good movies. Also we want to promote an eco-friendly lifestyle. We have decided bicycles can be used beyond the outdoors and it is possible to ride them inside a cinema to generate electricity, which would be used to project the films. During the movie, 20 volunteers will pedal the bikes and viewers will be able to join in as well."

The cinema's management didn't say if they get complaints about the noise created by all that peddling.
