Latvian Kids Build Over 400 Bird Boxes

This is the sound of spring for many in Latvia.
With a little guidance from their parents, children at the Riga Zoo made bird boxes in anticipation of the returning migrating birds.
Just using wooden nails, participants constructed more than 400 bird boxes during the two-day workshop.
Zoo officials hope this project will help the children also learn the importance of nature.
Once the final nail was hammered in, the young carpenters were keen to mark the exact spot where their box will be placed.
While some of the boxes the children made will be set in the parks and forests on the outskirts of the city, others get to be enjoyed closer to home.
One family was excited that their young daughter was able to participate this year.
[Arnis Sprogis, Bird Box Maker]:
"You bet! Here we have many birds - sparrows, tomtits, thrushes. This time my daughter made a box for the tomtits."
With the box snugly placed for spring, all they need now are for their feathered friends to return.
