Green Motor Boat Makes Waves at Boat Show

Traditional motor boats use a noisy and smelly combustion engine running on diesel or gasoline. The fuel is expensive and affects the environment, but now times are changing.

[Jonas Göthberg, Sales Manager]:

“This boat is a standard production boat from Nimbus Boats. It’s a 27 foot boat, weighs approximately 4 tons, and it’s a full planning boat, and the unique thing about this one is it’s fully electric.”

Electrical driven boats used to bring something like this into mind, but now we are looking at a boat of this size capable of 27 knots and with a 20 nautical miles range on one charge with the current battery technology.

But what about the costs?

[Jonas Göthberg, Sales Manager]:

“In the production mode we would say approximately 20-25% more then an average boat with diesel engine, but that’s just an estimation today. You have low consumption of energy, I say a full tank with this boat is approximately 50 Swedish crowns and you can run 20 nautical miles — that’s a factor 1 to 20 less than diesel fuel. Then you also have the service issues with the boat  you have no oil to be changed on the boat. I would say in the long run it’s much more efficient.”

The boat will be on the market in one or two years and will be a serious alternative for the environmentally conscious, no noise and exhaust fumes.
