Ahead of the presidential election in Ukraine, a series of training sessions is underway for election workers.
The training has been organized by the Central Election Committee of Ukraine with help from the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe.
There are approximately 80-thousand election workers attending the training seminars.
Those who can’t make it to the training will be given an information pack containing a video seminar.
[Rene Bibo, OSCE Project Coordinator]:
"These materials were developed in close cooperation with the Central Election Commission, and we hope will be of great assistance to the election officials when they implement their duties.”
Olga Mikal has worked in the elections before.
She says that regardless of her previous experience, the new training has provided a lot of new information.
[Оlga Мikal, Election Worker]:
“There was a question from the audience. When is an observer allowed to enter if the doors were already closed behind the last election member? This was their response: that an observer can enter even when the election committee meeting has already begun.”
Election workers are not expecting a lot of pay this election.
For 24 hours on the job they will receive a little over $10 dollars.
[Оlga Мikal, Election Worker]:
“Well, if you stay there for 24 hours, even longer, while the count takes place, you get 100 hryvnya.”
But though the pay is not high, it’s a guaranteed income for these workers.
