Commonwealth Team Heads for the South Pole

Team members come from Brunei, Cyprus, Ghana, India, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore and Great Britain. Through what they are about to undertake, they want to express that ordinary women can have extraordinary dreams and commemorate 60 years of the Commonwealth the organization of nations formed after the dissolution of the British Empire.

Royal Commonwealth Society Director, Danny Sriskandarajah, wishes them the best of luck, on their journey to Antarctica.

The team includes two ethnic Chinese, 36 year-old Peng Sucui from Singapore. A mother of 3, who works as an IT consultant. And 25 year-old Liang Liying, an official from Brunei’s department of foreign affairs. They took the opportunity to thank all those who have supported them.

[Peng Sucui, Singapore]:
“I will say really thank you very much for everyone that has been supporting me, so far. And I hope that I still get their support all the way to the end. And I definitely can't wait to see them back at home.”

[Liang Liying, Brunei]:
“Well, I'd like to thank all the organisations, the ministries, the individuals that have supported me, my family, my husband, my mum...”

The team plans to reach the south pole on new year’s day 2010.
