Ukrainian Ecologists Pay Attention to Climate Changes

The parade is marching down the central street of Kiev.
Activists from environmental organizations are chanting, "Let our planet live."
On the day of International climate protection they are calling for the reduction of global carbon footprints.
[Christina Rudnitskaya, Activist]:
"Climate change is the most serious problem our humanity has ever met. Even the economic crisis is not as global. How can economies can be developed when conditions for human life are unsuitable for living
— when there are floods and hurricanes, famine, drought and lack of potable water?"
Some activists are dressed in white bear costumes. They say these animals are suffering from the results of climate changes.
[Paul Vovk, activist]:
"They always lived in snow and ice, and now there will be land and grass."
According to ecologists, one of the main causes of climate changing is carbon dioxide emissions.
Scientists estimate that the concentration of atmospheric CO2 should not exceed 350 parts per million (ppm). But it’s already around 390 ppm.
[Anton Miroshnichenko, movement "350" in Ukraine]:
"We have already exceeded this concentration. Now our task is to inform the public and world leaders that we need urgently to go back to point 350."
Today similar action is taking place all over the world. People communicate through the site "350.org" and report on what activities they are planning to hold in their regions.
[Anton Miroshnichenko, Movement "350" in Ukraine]:
"Donetsk activists wrote us and said: we'll get on the roof of the house and draw a big symbol '350', that will be visible from space."
Activists say that everyone can reduce air pollution. They advise using energy saving lamps, public transportation, conserving water and not leaving electrical appliances in standby mode.
[Anna Varavva, Reporter]:
"Ecologists are encouraging to contribute to the environment protection right here. Anyone can create and attach this figure
— a symbol of renewable energy. During this event they are planning to make 350 figures".
However, are the world’s leaders listening to these activists’ appeal? We will have an answer when the December 2009 U.N. Summit in Copenhagen releases the results of the adoption of a new climate change agreement calling for a global emissions reduction by 2020.
