UK Coal Plant Protest

Clashes break out between police and protesters on Saturday, as about 1,000 demonstrators try to tear up perimeter fencing.
The group, gathered outside the giant coal plant in Nottinghamshire, say they have achieved their goal. However, energy firm E.ON says the station was operating normally despite the opposition.
The estimated cost of the police operation was 500,000 British Pounds.
[Ian Ackerley, Nottinghamshire Police]:
"The precise costs are still being calculated, but it will certainly be in excess of 1/2 million pounds."
By mid-morning Sunday more than 50 arrests were confirmed, revised from an earlier figure of nearly 80 arrests.
Although there were several clashes between police and protesters, 'the Camp for Climate Action' says the aim is to confront the causes of climate change – not to create conflict with police.
Organizers of the Great Climate Swoop event have promised to halt production, and several activists managed to gain entry to the site.
The Ratcliffe-on-Soar site was chosen as a target in an online vote, following a Climate Camp held in London during August.
