North Korean River Floods on the Border with China

On Tuesday, North Korea said that about 7,000 acres of farmland have flooded due to heavy rains in regions bordering China.

After flooding from a rain-swollen river caused more than 5,000 people to be removed from affected areas last week, many parts of Shinuiju City were submerged.

Massive flooding in recent years has left hundreds of people dead or missing, swept away buildings and inundated farms, prompting North Korea to seek foreign food aid.

North Korea can barely feed its 23 million people even with a good harvest due to its hilly terrain and antiquated farming industry.
