Stranded Residents Flee Flood Waters in Southern China

A week of torrential rains set off floods and landslides that have killed at least 365 people in regions across southern China.
Over the last week, the swollen Fu River breached two places along the Changhai dyke causing nearly 100,000 residents to flee their homes.
More than 2.4 million people in flood-affected areas have evacuated to temporary relief shelters.
Residents in Jiangxi Province’s Fuzhou City say every family in their area left at least one family member behind to guard their belongings and property.
Those who stayed behind in the villages say aid has been slow to get to them.
[He Zhiming, Villager]:
"As for our living conditions now, we have just a little rice left and no vegetables. Our paddy fields are flooded, so we are left with no crops this year. So we are just relying on aid from the government, otherwise we will have nothing to eat."
Official estimates have put the economic losses at more than $10 billion.
But the threat from the flooding is not over yet, as more heavy rain is forecast in the coming days.
