Beijing Villagers Defend Home Against Forced Eviction

In China, forced evictions have been called one of the leading causes of instability. Property developers team up with local authorities to forcibly remove people from their homes--to get land for redevelopment.
Now one such scene has been caught on video and posted on the Chinese website Netease.
In a village near Beijing, Kang Shunqing had refused to move for a reconstruction project. He said that the compensation offered was too low, and that he could not afford to buy a new home.
Then on April 13, Yanqing County authorities arrived with a demolition crew, and a group of men carrying bricks and fire extinguishers, and began tearing down Kang's home.
Kang told Jinghua Newspaper that he and his wife were inside the house at the time. Kang said a group of men tried to drag them out of their home.
Kang was able to fight off the men, and with the help of neighbors they were able to stop the demolition. Covered in fire extinguisher powder, Kang came out of his home, which is still standing—for now.
