Google's "Big Sister": A Copycat Emerges in China

In a country notorious for counterfeiting goods, one group in China has taken the art of imitation to a whole new level. The world’s most popular search engine, Google, now has a copycat in China called Goojje.
The name Goojje is a play on words. The last syllable in “gu-jie” is the Chinese word for “older sister.” While the last syllable in Google—“gu-ge” in Chinese—sounds like the character for “older brother.”
The site was launched just one day after Google threatened to leave China over censorship disputes.
Goojje’s founder says their search engine was created to promote peace, and to urge Google to stay in China.
Like other search engines operating in China, Goojje’s content is filtered to censor topics considered sensitive by the Chinese regime.
