Chinese Officials Angry at U.S. over Uighur Detainees

The Chinese regime is furious over a U.S. decision to send six Uighur former detainees at Guantanamo Bay to the Pacific island nation of Palau—rather than back to China.

The Uighur are a Turkic ethic group living in China's far-west region of Xinjiang. The men were swept up by the U.S. government during the Afghanistan war.

The Obama administration has resisted repeated requests from Chinese officials to hand the men over to the Chinese regime. U.S. officials are certain the Uighur men would face persecution there and had searched for months for a country willing to take the former detainees.
