And now we move onto mainland China and the case of Deng Yujiao, a waitress who stabbed a local official to death after he sexually assaulted her. Her case is getting a lot of attention on Chinese blogs. Concerns are running high that Deng Yujiao will not get a fair trail. A panel of scholars and lawyers is calling on people to work together in the pursuit of justice in her case.

Hubei County waitress Deng Yujiao stabbed a local official to death after he made unwanted sexual advances towards her. This case has drawn a lot of public attention on Chinese blogs.

Lawyer Han Yicun says a public support group for Deng Yujiao has been set up to try to ensure that she gets a fair hearing.

[Han Yicun, Lawyer]:
“Our goal is to ensure that the case will be processed fairly. It is because a weak woman has no power. The judicial system in China is corrupt, so we have to worry about this matter.”

Several support blogs have been set up by young Internet bloggers, lawyers and the public in general.

Zhang Dajun is the coordinator for the Deng Yujiao’s Young Internet Users Support Group.

[Zhang Dajun, Blog Coordinator]:
“There are a lot of different supporters in Deng’s case. Finding out the truth is the ultimate goal. Our activity in itself is to know the truth, hoping to dig out the truth.”

Deng’s case has been generating heated support on the Internet, which may be why the China State Council has issued a report to restrict information shown on networks.

A lot of bloggers think of Deng Yujiao as a heroine helping to clamp down on corrupt officials.

Some articles posted on Chinese blogs say that the waitress’s knife stabbed at the soft spot of the Chinese Communist Party officials’ absence of moral values.
