Google Music Website in China Faces Censorship

This month, Google launched a music download website in China, where users can access songs by popular artists for free. Only users whose computer IP address shows that they're inside China will have access to it, though.

The site so far includes over a million free downloads from Warner Music, Sony, Universal Music and more.

But not every popular song is accessible. Just as Google agreed to censor its Chinese search engine in 2006, so too have music industry executives agreed to censor their music content on this new site. Specifically, the president of Warner Music Asia told AP, quote, "We wouldn't give files to people in China (in situations) where a song has been banned."

Popular music groups that have been banned in China in the past few years include Guns 'N' Roses, Oasis, and Bjork
