Pakistan Bomb Victims Laid to Rest

2010-09-03 11:36

About a thousand mourners in Pakistan attend a mass funeral for those killed by a triple bomb attack.

The blasts, which hit a Shi'ite religious procession in the eastern city of Lahore on Wednesday, killed 33 people and wounded 171.

Security is tight as crowds come to mourn the dead.

Many believe the attacks are the work of pro-Taliban insurgents who aim to destabilize the government.

One shi'ite cleric speaks out.

[Yousuf Naqzvi, Shi’ite Cleric]:
"Yesterday's incident was horrific, it was dreadful. It is a conspiracy against this country, this nation, and this land. These terrorists intend to destabilize the country and destroy peace."

Security analysts fear Pakistan could see renewed militant violence as it tries to manage the country's worst floods.

Militant groups could seize upon the disorder and misery caused by the floods to gain recruits.

But today Pakistanis mourn their fallen before facing what lies ahead.
