The leader of the North Korean regime, Kim Jong Il, is believed to have traveled to China on Thursday, according to Reuters, citing South Korean government sources.
Kim is said to be travelling with his youngest son, who many anticipate will soon replace the ailing communist leader.
Analysts believe Kim is informing the Chinese regime of his succession plans, and may be seeking further economic assistance for the impoverished state.
The visit would be Kim’s second one this year. Both North Korean and Chinese authorities have declined to confirm the trip.
