High Uranium Level Detected in India's Punjab State

A German laboratory has conducted tests on hair samples of 150 neurologically disabled children in the Faridkot district of India’s Punjab state. The tests have revealed high levels of uranium and other harmful chemicals.
[Dr. Amar Singh Azad, President, Kheti Virasat Mission, Punjab]:
"In 2009 when we got the report about uranium it was very surprising. We expected that mercury and arsenic levels would be high. But when the report mentioned that the uranium level is very high as well as lead and aluminum. These four metals found altogether might be due to the effect of pesticides and fertilizers.”
The Baba Farid Center for Special Children gives treatment for autism, cerebral palsy and mental impairment.

"Heavy metals are known for creating neurological disorders. Children suffering from neurological disorders come here and to treat them heavy metal tests were conducted. The test detected the presence of heavy metals. Aluminum levels are very high as well as uranium, and other heavy metals have also been detected.”
A Greenpeace study suggests that three major types of toxicity—chemical, radiation and biological—are rampant in Punjab.
