High-ranking Chinese official Xi Jinping arrived in Bangladesh on Monday for a two-day visit to strengthen ties between the two countries. Xi is widely speculated to replace current Chinese leader Hu Jintao in 2013.
The Chinese regime plans to sign an economic cooperation deal with Bangladesh, promising to donate five-and-a-half million U.S. dollars, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister told AFP.
Other topics on the meeting agenda included: increasing defense cooperation, building a multi-billion-dollar deepwater port, and launching a telecommunications satellite.
China has recently replaced India as Bangladesh's biggest trading partner. China is also its main military supplier. Bangladesh reportedly wants to buy two Chinese warships to protect its oil and gas resources.
On the rest of Xi Jinping's two-week trip, he'll be visiting Laos, New Zealand and Australia.
