Two unidentified men fired at the security personnel outside the Indian Space Research Organization during the early morning hours of Tuesday.
[Kamal Kant, Inspector General, Karnataka Police]:
“Yesterday night around 3:20 or 3:30 the sentry on duty, they noticed two persons near that place. So when he noticed these two persons, one of them opened fire on him. So at that time this person he opened retaliatory fire and in that he shot eight rounds and after that these two persons escaped. And we have taken up the case, we are investigating the case, we have strengthened the security of the premises also.”
Authorities say it’s too early to link the violence to a militant attack.
Authorities have beefed up security around these after warnings of possible attacks.
Earlier in the day, India's federal minister told reporters in New Delhi that the attackers wore 'some kind of a uniform' and possibly shot from what he’s calling country-made pistols.
Police have launched a search for the two men who fled after the shootout.
