A five-day mega employment fair is underway in Srinagar City. The aim is to create awareness among educated unemployed youth about self-employment schemes offered by various government departments and agencies.
Several government departments, banks and financial service providers have set up stalls.
[Mohd Jamaal, District Employment Officer]:
“Various departments have announced loan schemes. They give information on various loans available to people and tell people how can you adopt income-generating schemes here so that you can give employment to others, too."
[Farhat Abass, Unemployed]:
"We want information on employment. We saw a number of stalls and we've got a lot of information. I got information on fisheries--and that's what I came here for.”
The last few years have been relatively peaceful, and the federal and state governments have been trying to woo the youth of the state by providing employment opportunities to them.
The fair was organized by the District Employment and Counseling Center.
