One of India's oldest paramilitary forces, Assam Rifles, celebrated their 175th anniversary by organizing a motorcycle peace rally in northeastern Guwahati City on Tuesday.

The event was flagged off by the governor of Assam alongside the Director General of Assam Rifles.

The group says they aim to spread the message of peace in the troubled northeastern region of India, and to boost the morale of the Indian troopers stationed in the region.

[Lt. General K. S. Yadav, Director General, Assam Rifles]:
"Through the rally, the soldiers will get to travel the whole of northeast and spread the message to the people that Assam Rifles is always there with them. So that is why we have organized this rally."

Thirty Assam Rifles personnel, including an officer, are taking part in the rally to highlight the force's role in the region and to foster goodwill.
