Sony Unveils New 3D Television Lineup

Sony unveiled its new 3D TV lineup in Tokyo Tuesday, seeking to take advantage of the popularity of 3D movies in theaters.
[Yutaka Nakamura, Sony Marketing Manager]:
"3D movies have been very popular at movie theaters. We believe that the time is right and that we are prepared to bring 3D into people's living rooms along with appropriate content in summer 2010."
Sony, Samsung Electronics and Panasonic all plan to globally launch 3D TV this year.
Sony's senior vice president says they expect to sell about 60 percent more LCD TVs this year.
[Yoshihisa Ishida, Sony Senior Vice President]:
"We hope to sell at least 25 million LCD TVs. In terms of what percentage will be 3D TVs, I think that it would be about 10 percent in the financial year 2010."
Sony also plans an update to its Playstation 3 gaming system that would allow consumers to play their video games in 3D.
