This attack outside a federal police office in Lahore bore all the hallmarks of an operation by al Qaeda.

The blast left a huge crater in the road outside the office of the main police investigation agency and destroyed the front of the building.

It happened as many here were heading to work, leaving at least 11 people dead and another sixty wounded.

A doctor at the hospital treating victims says the dead included a woman and a child.
