2010-02-23 11:32

Today underprivileged children from across India met with parliamentarians in New Delhi to press for a charter on education for all.

Representatives of the group National Coalition are leading this initiative and were joined by other NGO and civil organizations.

[Mukesh Kumar, NGO Volunteer]:
"These children are meeting the parliamentarians because the state of education in our country is very grave and we are pressing to make the state of education improve in the country and see that everyone gets equal rights to an education."

[Mahinda, Supports Education for All]:
"The child laborers should be rescued and everyone should have equal rights to an education."

The right to free and compulsory education act of 2009, provides for education for all children between the ages of six and 14.

The group wants children up to 18 years of age included under the act.
