North Korea to Release Detained U.S. Activist

2010-02-05 11:40

North Korean authorities say they’re releasing U.S. activist Robert Park today.

Park entered North Korea on Christmas Day and has been detained there ever since.

Park was on a mission to raise awareness North Korea’s human rights abuses.

A South Korean Christian group supporting Robert Park welcomed the report of his release.

The group also said Park may have been brainwashed during his time in North Korea.

Defectors from the North say the state often uses torture to extract confessions.

The move comes as pressure mounts on North Korea to end its year-long boycott of international nuclear talks.
