Violence erupted in Indian Kashmir on Tuesday following a shutdown called by separatist organization. They were protesting the death of a Muslim youth during clashes with security forces.
The young man was killed when police fired teargas to break up an anti-India demonstration.
All shops, business establishments and government offices remained closed, and traffic stayed off the roads.
But in the middle of elaborate security arrangements, youth pelted stones at vehicles and security personnel, injuring some of them.
Tension between India and Pakistan has risen in recent weeks after a series of border skirmishes and a spike in violence by militant groups.
Indian police and soldiers have been accused of being heavy-handed in dealing with protesters in Kashmir.
Officials say tens of thousands of people have been killed in Kashmir, since militant action started in 1989.
