Known as the world’s largest automaker, Toyota’s reputation is on the line as it recalled some of its most popular cars in Europe and in China on Thursday. The affected models have accelerator-related problems and are not safe to drive.
Toyota did not confirm the number of vehicles to be recalled in Europe. But in China, the automaker said that it will recall over 75,000 RAV4 models.
All the cars being recalled in North America, Europe and China have pedals made by supplier CTS Corp.
Toyota will spend millions of dollars to fix the problem. Toyota announced on Wednesday that it would replace floor mats or pedals on over a million U.S. vehicles if customers wanted.
And to make the situation worse, Toyota’s shares fell further on Thursday.
A spokesperson from Toyota’s European division said that production will continue as potentially affected vehicles undergo investigation.
