A security bunker at the main bus stand of Srinagar’s Batmaloo district was the focal point of violent protest on Wednesday.
Residents of Batmaloo along with bus drivers are demanding removal of the bunker which they allege is used by security personnel to harass them in the name of searching for hidden weapons and drugs.
Police charged protesters and fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob.
Many persons including police personnel were injured in the clash.
Analysts say that near daily street protests in the last two years are giving new life to the separatist movement in the disputed Himalayan region.
