Philippine security forces found six more bodies on Wednesday… at the site of a brutal election-related massacre in the country’s south. Fifty-two are now confirmed dead.
Some continued to search for their missing loved ones, grieving their tragic loss.
Ruth de los Reyes has visited one funeral home after another, hoping to find the body of her son, Daryl Vincent, who was an innocent bystander.
[Ruth de los Reyes, Relative of Slain Victim]:
"I really cannot accept what happened, because my son... was such a good person."
Some bodies still need to be identified, but 17 of them are believed to be journalists, making Monday's killings the most deadly attack ever on the media.
Rey Subang's brother, Ian, was one of the journalists killed. Rey says he recognized his brother's shoe as soon as he saw it in the pit, as he brought him to work that day.
[Rey Subang, Relative of Slain Victim]:
"For me, it's been difficult. So I call on the government to resolve this case, not to be haphazard about this."
On Wednesday, the government declared an emergency and sent in troops to the province of Maguindanao, where the killings took place, and in adjoining Sultan Kudarat Province and Cotabato City.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo told reporters the perpetrators will not escape justice.
The journalists were attacked by about 100-armed men when were accompanying several women of a powerful clan… en route to become candidates in a provincial governors face.
Two of their vehicles and many bodies were thrown into a freshly dug pit and covered with earth by an excavator.
It is suspected that the massacre was motivated by clan feuds, which is common in the southern Philippines.
