Heavy, unseasonal rains in the Aurangabad district of India's western Maharashtra state, have destroyed crops of cotton, maize and sugarcane.
Many farmers in the rain-hit region were devastated to see the damage done to their crops.
They’re calling for government aid.
[Sanjay Bodke, Farmer]:
"We have lost about 80 percent of our sugarcane crop. The maize crop is still submerged in water."
Government officials, on the other hand, are saying the crop damage is minimal.
[RL Deshmukh, Aurangabad Agricultural Department]:
"We are taking stock of the losses. However as per my information, there hasn't been much loss. Even if some losses have happened to crops like cotton, they can be recovered. I believe that there has not been much loss."
Farmers in the county can only hope that the weather will be in their favor for good crop yields.
