Air India Pilots Continue to Protest

2009-11-19 11:36

These pilots are blaming Air India’s chairman and managing director for the problems with the airline. The carrier has been hard hit by the global economic downturn… many pilots haven’t received full pay in two months.

[Captain Ravinder, Protester]:
"Management is well aware of our demands. Whenever we protest if is taken for granted that is for money but it is wrong money, money is not all, we have other demands also and because they were fulfilled we were force to take our protest to the roads."

The pilots say they would be forced to go on strike if the management continues to ignore them.

[Captain D K Bhalla, Protester]:
"The management has troubled everyone, right from the junior to the higher officials, we want pay hike for all otherwise we will go on strike."

The pilot’s union says the strike may start early next week.

But this would depend on the outcome of meeting with the labor commissioner set for Thursday.

The airline declared a loss of a billion dollars in the last financial year.
