A meeting was held in New Delhi between Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over nuclear talks. On November 17, Singh announced at a press conference that he looked forward to working on a nuclear program with Canada.

[Manmohan Singh, Indian Prime Minister]:
"And we look forward to negotiating in the near future a very similar nuclear cooperation deal with Canada."

Canada collaborated with India's civilian nuclear program until India conducted the first nuclear explosion at Pokhran in 1974. But Canada is willing to move forward.

[Stephen Harper, Canadian Prime Minister]:
"We believe Canada-India have a prosperous civilian nuclear future ahead of us. We also have great faith in our Indian friends and partners… This is a stable and reliable friend of our country and we have no, certainly no reservation, about pursuing this kind of agreement. "

Singh said a civilian nuclear agreement with Canada was in the offing on the lines of similar pacts New Delhi has inked with the U.S., Russia and France in the recent past.
