2009-11-17 9:11

In Pakistan’s Quetta City, a bomb placed on a parked motorcycle exploded on Tuesday, November 17th. A passerby was killed on the spot and six others were injured, including a senior police official.

According to police, the wounded official was the Deputy Inspector General for Operations. He was on the way to his office when the remote-controlled bomb went off.

The officer and the rest of the injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to local media, the injured police official has played a significant role in the arrests of some prominent members of separatist groups in the province.

It’s not clear if Islamist militants or separatist insurgents operating in the southwest were responsible for the attack.

The Pakistan army went on the offensive in South Waziristan last month aiming to root out Pakistani Taliban militants.

The militants have retaliated with a surge of bomb attacks across the country, killing hundreds of people.
