Taj Mahal Replica Pays Tribute to Mumbai Attack Victims

2009-11-16 13:02

The Taj Mahal is a mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his favorite wife.

And this man has made his own version of the landmark… but this time it’s to pay respect to victims of last November’s Mumbai terror attacks.

Kumar collected 10 million Indian rupees to build the 45-foot tall structure.

[A. K. B. Kumar, Replica Builder]:
"I thought of building a memorial for the people who sacrificed their lives. Nobody thinks about them after their deaths, so I thought if I display the photographs and details of the martyrs, then anybody can come and visit this place and know about our great warriors. Only then they will be able to feel the hurdles and pain they went through.”

Kumar chose the Taj Mahal because of its white color, which he says is a symbol of peace and love.

Kumar had to visit the landmark several times to make sure he could make the replica as accurate as possible.

The replica has four minarets representing the Indian army, air force, navy and other security forces.

A special place will be reserved for the victims who lost their lives in the Mumbai terror attacks… and the police officers who lost their lives fighting with the militants.

It should be completed sometime next year.
