South Korean students took the nationwide college entrance exam on Thursday the 12th. Students felt anxious about acing the College Scholastic Aptitude Test because it would determine their future careers and even who they marry.
Inside the classrooms, students waited nervously as examiners distributed exam papers. Students were restricted from having electronic devices, including cell phones and mp3 players.
These exams not only determine career paths but also marriage partners. Graduates of elite universities are much sought after by top Korean companies and later as wives and husbands.
The competition for university acceptance in South Korea is intense. This year about 680,000 students will be taking the exams. But barely fifty-percent of the students will get a seat in the country's top universities.
